Accessibility statement for UK Health Security Agency – BUMPS best use of medicines in pregnancy

This website is run by UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA). We want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:

  • change colours, contrast levels and fonts
  • navigate most of the website using speech recognition software
  • navigate most of the website using just a keyboard
  •  listen to most of the website using a screen reader (including the most recent versions of JAWS, NVDA and VoiceOver)

How accessible this website is

We know some parts of this website are not fully accessible:

  • a visible focus indicator is missing on some interactive elements – including the main logo
  • page titles are not unique and descriptive
  • the language of pages has not been set
  • alternative text is not descriptive or accurate for many images – including linked (functional) images and CAPTCHAs
  • there is insufficient contrast to read some text and graphics comfortably
  • you cannot skip to the main content on pages as this function isn’t provided
  • when pages are zoomed in (up to 400%) content and/or functionality is lost – including the cookies message and form inputs
  • there are issues with focus order and illogical sequences of content for assistive technology users

Text

  • text has been embedded in images rather than available as plain text (Images of Text 1.4.5)

Navigation

  • some interactive elements do not have a focus indicator (Focus Visible 2.4.7)
  • there is no method to bypass repeated blocks of content and skip to the main content of a page (Bypass Blocks 2.4.1)
  • users have not been provided with more than one way to find web pages (for example via a global search mechanism and sitemap) (Multiple Ways 2.4.6)

  • interactive carousel controls could not be accessed using a keyboard alone (Keyboard 2.1.1)

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

The BUMPS website is maintained in-house with no dedicated funding. Modifications to improve its accessibility are made on a best endeavours basis.

Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 01/02/2022. It was last reviewed on 01/02/2022.

This website was last tested on 13 September 2021. The test was carried out by Nomensa who performed an evaluation of 5 pages against all level A and AA success criteria from the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1. Content was selected to ensure a good representation of different pages, templates and components were included in testing.
